FAULT:A fault is a fracture of rock which is always accompanied by a displacement between the two blocks

PARTS OF A FAULT:

1: foot wall

2: hanging wall

3: fault plane. is the surface over which the fracture and the displacement is produced.

4: fault scrap. where the two blocks are displaced.

5: fault jump: the amount of rock displacement .

TYPES OF FAULT

NORMAL

CHARACTERISTICS: tension force,  vertical motion, in divergent plate boundaries.

REVERSE

CHARACTERISTICS: compression force, vertical motion, in convergent plate boundaries.
