Fossils

They are the preserved  remains or traces of animals, plants, and other organisms from de remote past.

We usually found them in sedimentary rocks

Some fossils:

-Index or guide fossils: used to define and identify geological periods.

–> Features:

  • Abundant
  • Easy to identify
  • Short-lived
  • Widely distributed
  • Occur in many types of rocks

Trilobites: marine arthropods of the paleozoic

-Ammonites: marine invertebrate animals

  • They were cephalopods

-Nummulites: marine protozoan of the Terciary

  • They are particularly located arround the Mediterranean, also in “La Sierra de Guara” because of the alpine orogenic.

-Belemnites: the internal shell of an extinct cephalopod mollusc of the Jurassic and Cretaceous.

-Ignite: the footprint of a dinosaur.

-Comprolite: fossiliced animal feces.
